Kerry loses Olympic appeal

FIGURE SKATING: Brooklee Han will represent Australia in ladies' figure skating at February's Winter Olympics after Chantelle Kerry was unsuccessful in challenging her position at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Kerry had argued that Han should have been ruled ineligible for Sochi because she entered a tournament without receiving the national body's sanction to do so.

But it is understood CAS has dismissed Kerry's appeal, handing Han the sole Australian women's spot for the Games.

It came after Kerry had earlier this year unsuccessfully appealed Han's selection for a qualifying competition in Germany.

American born and raised, Han has spent little time in Australia but qualifies for national selection through her Australian-born father.

The Kerry family will have one representative at the Games with Chantelle's brother Brendan qualifying for the one men's spot for Australia.

The figure skating team is rounded out by Danielle O'Brien and Greg Merriman, the pair representing their country in ice dancing.
