Honeymoon for Brennan as Olympic dream realised
Three weeks of African bliss is in store for recently crowned Olympic Champion Kim Brennan.

Rio 2016: Three weeks of African bliss is in store for recently crowned Olympic Champion Kim Brennan, as the single sculls rower is finally able to enjoy her honeymoon with husband, and fellow Olympic gold medallist, Scott Brennan.

“We’re going to Zambia, Africa for our honeymoon. Scott’s been working hard and I’ve never really been on a proper holiday where I’m not training,” Brennan said.

An ambassador for a World Rowing clean water project, she intends to check on that before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Brennan describes the holiday as “active and relaxation”, the perfect mix for the sporting power couple.

The 31-year-old lawyer has finally had time to reflect on the realisation of her Olympic dream in Rio and ponder what’s next.

“I still haven’t made any decisions. I’ll do some fun regattas at the end of October, even if I’m not in shape. The rowing community has been a big support and the regattas are great.”

“I’m starting a new job in November at Ernst and Young. They’ve actually gone out to eight female Olympians and offered six month internships.”

In the past few weeks Brennan has been a part of the Team Welcome Home parades and also managed to visit her old school, celebrating her third and most successful Olympic campaign.

“It was incredibly exciting. A lot of energy, it was so beautiful to see,” Brennan said of the next generation of sporting stars.

The next thing for Brennan to get used to is the instant recognition her Olympic experience and thousands of media interviews in the last month has created.

“I’ve been recognised four times in the supermarket. It’s an obscure experience.”

Looking back at the race which realised her Olympic dreams, Brennan says she’s only seen snippets of the race coverage.

“I don’t actually remember much the first 1000m. I was so much in the zone that it was a blur. I controlled the race. Looking back on the data, it’s the best race I’ve ever done.

“The word that comes to mind is satisfaction. For a very long time it was no more than a dream.”
