CANOE/KAYAK: Jessica Fox has won her second silver medal in as many days at the first ICF slalom World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.

The dual world champion backed up her second place C1 finish yesterday to go within a fingernail of winning gold in the women’s K1 final.

Fox entered the final, knowing she had to attack the course from the outset, with less than a second separating nine of the top ten qualifiers in one of the tightest semifinals on record.

German Jasmin Schornberg edged the Australian by 0.13 seconds, winning in 98.16.

“I was really happy with another silver medal today,” Fox said.

“The womens race was really competitive and really close and I think the level stepped up in the final as well.”

“For me I just wanted to get out there and improve on my semifinal and put down a fast time. Jasmin had a very good run as well and just got me at the finish, so I am really happy for her and I am happy to be on the podium.”

Czech paddler Katerina Kudejova finished third in 99.15.

It was Fox’s third K1 world cup medal following victory at Tacen in 2014, and bronze in London last year.

The 21 year old also improved on her fifth placing last year.

Earlier Rosalyn Lawrence finished 22nd in the semifinals.

The second ICF slalom World Cup will be held in Krakow, Poland from 26 to 28 June.
