LUGE: In a great pre-Olympic warm-up, Alex Ferlazzo has finished 15th at the Luge Junior World Championships in Igls, Austria.
Racing on the track where he had his first Olympic-style experience as part of the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympics, Ferlazzo produced two good runs in difficult conditions.
“I was in 16th first run with a time of 51.4 seconds,” Ferlazzo said. “It was not a clean run though which is disappointing.
“My second run was much better with a time of 51.2 with only a few small mistakes at the end of the track.”
In warm and rainy conditions, Ferlazzo didn’t set a track record but he was happy to set personal best times on both his starts. He finished with a total time score of 1:42.610.
“I’m stoked about my result,” the 18-year-old from Townsville said.
“15th out of 41 In the Junior World Championship! Awesome way to end the season and start the Olympics!!”
The event was won by Toni Gräfe of Germany in a total time of 1:41.473.
Ferlazzo will arrive in Sochi on the evening of Sunday 2 February, and will compete on Day 1 and Day 2 of the Games.
