More medals are up for grabs on day eight of competition in Beijing, with five Australian athletes competing between Snowboard cross and Skeleton.
Snowboard
The mixed team Snowboard cross will make its first Olympic appearance and Australia will be represented by two teams in what will no doubt be an exciting competition.
Belle Brockhoff and Cam Bolton form one team, while Josie Baff and Adam Lambert make up the second team.
In Snowboard cross there are quarter-finals, semi-finals, a small final and a final. The male athletes race first and the time advantage the winning male has is transferred to his female teammate, with the other women leaving the start gate starting in a staggered format. The first female athlete to cross the finish line wins the race for her team.
The top two teams in each race of four will qualify to the semi-finals. The top two teams in each semi-final qualify to the big final, while the bottom two teams join the small final. The finishing order in the big final will determine the medals.
Belle, Cam, Josie and Adam have all been drawn in the same quarter-final, which is set to start from 1pm AEDT on Channel 7 and 7plus.
Skeleton
Jackie Narracott will be back at the Yanqing National Sliding Centre for the third and fourth runs in the women’s skeleton, aiming to finish on the podium.
Having shocked the world with two outstanding runs on Thursday, she finds herself at the top of the leaderboard.
Jackie’s total combined time of 2:04.34 is .21 ahead of Germany’s event favourite Hannah Neise.
Today, Jackie will compete in heats three and four. The athletes with the best combined times after the four heats are awarded medals.
You can watch Jackie in the women’s skeleton live on Channel 7 and 7plus from 11:20pm AEDT.
