Preview – Rio Olympics – Day 4 (Tuesday, August 9)

Australians will be in action in 14 sports on the fourth day of competition at the Rio Olympic Games.

Four Aussie teams will be in playing, while we look to be in line for Equestrian medals, after missing the podium in London.

For a full list of Australian competitors in action check out the Day 4 schedule on the website>>> or in Next Up on the app.

Day 4 (Tuesday, August 9)

EQUESTRIAN – Eventing: Team Jumping Final
Rio time: 10:00, AEST: 23:00
Australia are on track to win two medals on the final day of the Equestrian Event program. Both the Australian Team and Chris Burton in the individual competition, lead their events. The Australian’s have been consistent all competition and hopes are high they will finish the job in the final round – the Jumping. Australia last won a medal in Beijing in the Team event and Sydney in the Individual.

ROWING
Rio time: from 08:30, AEST: 21:30
Dual London medallist, Kim Brennan lines up in quarter-final four of the Single Sculls. Her arch rival, New Zealand’s 2014 world champion, Emma Twigg will compete in the first quarter-final. Australia will also be competing in the men’s Single Sculls, men’s Pair, women’s Double Sculls and men’s Double Sculls.

WATER POLO – Women: Australia vs Russia
Rio time: 13:00, AEST: 02:00
The Australian team are gunning for gold in Rio and have a great Olympic record with three podium finishes from the last four Games. The side will find their toughest preliminary match against the Russians as they look to top the group and aim to avoid the USA team until the gold medal match. In Olympic competition Australia has won all three matches against Russia.

BASKETBALL – Women: Australia vs France
Rio time: 12:15, AEST: 01:15
Australia meets France in its third round game in Group A of the women’s basketball tournament. Leading on four points, with the best for and against, Australia is looking good for their sixth consecutive medal.

FOOTBALL – Women: Australia vs Zimbabwe
Rio time: 16:00, AEST: Wednesday 05:00
The final pool game for Australia is against the lowly ranked Zimbabwe team. Assuming Australia win the final game, they will likely remain in third place in their pool. However, with a victory, they are likely to still progress to the quarter-finals as one of the highest ranked third placed teams.

HOCKEY – Men: Australia vs Belgium
Rio time: 20:30, AEST: Wednesday 09:30
Currently third in their pool, the Australian men’s hockey team meet Belgium in their next preliminary game. Potentially Belgium could be one of the surprises of the tournament. In their only previous clash in Olympics history the match finished in a draw.

Other sports in action on day one are: Archery, Boxing, Canoe Sprint, Judo, Rugby Sevens, Sailing, Shooting and Table Tennis.
