Sami Kennedy-Sim finally gets her chance to impress in Beijing on a big day of ski cross competition, while Greta Small has an afternoon on the slopes for downhill and slalom.
Freestyle Skiing
At her third Olympic Games Sami Kennedy-Sim flies the flag for Australia in ski cross.
Skiers race head-to-head through a course with mixed terrain features including big air tabletops, rollers and banked slopes which all together resembles motocross on skis. Similar to snowboard cross, competitors will take seeding runs first before the head-to-head knockout races begin.
Sami’s Olympic Personal Best came at PyeongChang 2018 when she made the small final and finished 8th.
She missed most of the 2020-21 World Cup season through injury, and Sami made her successful international return in November 2021 at the Secret Garden in China, which is where this Olympic event will be held.
As is often the case, anything can happen in ski cross on the day. Catch Sami in the seeding stage from 2:30pm AEDT on Thursday 17 February and in the 1/8 finals from 5pm AEDT live on Channel 7 or 7plus.
Alpine Skiing
Having competed in the women’s super-g and downhill individual events with mixed results, Greta will be aiming to end her Olympic campaign on a high when she returns to the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre for the alpine combined event.
Greta has an opportunity to complete the downhill and slalom courses again as part of the alpine combined event, in which times from both runs are added together and compared against other athletes to determine the best overall times and medallists.
She's at her third Olympic Games and will be keen to see how she fares here, after recording a DNF (Did Not Finish) in this event at PyeongChang 2018 when she was carrying an injury.
Watch Greta from 1:30pm AEDT in the downhill section, where she is no.2 on the start list, and from 5pm AEDT in the slalom live on Channel 7 or 7plus.
