SHORT TRACK SKATING: Brendan Corey's men's 1000m short track skating campaign is over after falling in a three-skater crash on the final corner of the last lap in the quarter-finals.
In Short Track Skating the top two placed ice skaters in each quarter-final are guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals, he found himself in third position with a lap to go and Brendan put everything into his finish hoping to overtake at least one of the two competitors in front of him.
An overtaking move he tried on the last corner didn’t go to plan, as he connected with Itzhak de Laat from the Netherlands and both ice skaters did not finish the race.
“At the end of that race I thought I saw an opening so I tried to get through but my blades just wouldn’t stick and I went down,” Brendan said.
“If my blades had held the corner I would have been fine.

“I still have the 500m to go and I’m going to go out there and give it my best.”
On review by the judge, Brendan was penalised and De Laat received an entry to the semis.
The 25-year-old Australian was emotional after the quarter-final but has taken pride in his effort.
“I’m not disappointed because I went out there and gave it everything. I would rather go down trying than not.
“My goal was to get to the Olympics and represent Australia and I did that.”
Two nights ago in the 1000m heats he broke an Australian Record for the fastest time ever in the event.
Catch Brendan in action again on Friday 11 February for the men’s 500m qualifying.
