Fresh from an outstanding tournament at the London Olympic test event, the Australian men's basketball team are ready to test themselves on a whole new level against world No.2 Spain.
Led by their NBA point guard Patty Mills, the Boomers performed above expectations in London and finished with a 4-1 record - their blemish a 71-67 loss to the undefeated France, who were laden with NBA talent.
As such they bring high expectations with them to Spain, who they'll play in a two game international friendly series starting on Thursday (Friday morning AEST) in Murcia.
Spain are the only team worldwide who appear able to challenge the all-powerful Team USA, and boast such talent as LA Lakers star Pau Gasol, his younger brother Marc, who plays with Memphis and up-and-coming point guard Ricky Rubio.
And while coach Brett Brown and his Boomers acknowledge Spain as overwhelming favourites, they see it as the ideal preparation for next month's Olympic qualification series with New Zealand.
"They will be the best team that we play," Brown admitted.
"They are an annual world force lately, they're arguably among the two best teams along with the United States, and to play against that team in Spain, against a hostile crowd and that type of talent is just invaluable.
"We'll go in there with some confidence and feeling good that we're going in the right direction.
"There's no time to feel too good about ourselves. We only have two weeks left (until the FIBA Oceania Championship) and we can't give an inch. We have to take advantage of every day."
