Confident they can go all the way to a fight for that elusive Olympic gold medal, the Boomers will be throwing everything they have at their opponent, having recently played Argentina in Las Vegas in a warm-up match where they came away with the win in a nail-biter.

Coach Brian Goorjian is well aware that Argentina will be another step from their previous Pool games.

“Every game we have played here has been tough.” Goorjian said.

“Argentina, we played them in the lead up and Patty (Mills) hit the game winner on the buzzer, it was tight throughout the game, all our games have been that way and this team, like ourselves, has gotten better.

“I just see a real tough, physical game ahead but one we are really excited about.

“We have positioned ourselves nicely, we have got together each game from the time we played Nigeria we have put together a strong second half, cutting down our turnovers.

“The guys have been great at adjusting and now as we have gotten down to this back half of the tournament, the guys can see the direction of how we need play offensively and the importance of how we need to play rotation wise, on ball and defensively."

The Boomers are not affraid to put pressure upon themselves with players making clear their intentions to fight hard all the way to a gold medal match, not afraid of the mammoth task ahead of having to overcome many of the global basketball heavyweights.

But the immediate priority for the Australians is Argentina, despite the high hopes, the team taking it one game at a time.

“They know the importance of the game and they are excited for this game.” Goorjian said.
