BASKETBALL: Australian basketball fans can start planning when they will get to cheer on the Aussie teams in Rio after the Olympic schedule was released overnight.
While many of the teams are still to be determined, fans can set their alarms to ensure their ready to lend their support to both sides who are well in medal contention.
Likely to feature NBA stars Andrew Bogut, Matt Dellavedova and Patty Mills, amongst a host of others, the men's team will open their campaign on Day 1 of Olympic competition (August 6 local time) against a side that will be determined at the final Olympic qualifiers in June. This game will be played at 3:15am, August 7 AEST.
Their blockbuster clash against the US side will be a little friendlier to Australian viewers with the match scheduled for 8am, August 11 AEST.
The women's side, who will be looking to win their sixth straight Olympic medal in Rio, will open the competition against Brazil in front of a racuous home crowd also on the opening day of the Games at 6:30am, August 7 AEST.
The women side's other confirmed opponent Japan, who they recently beat in three straight games, will take place at 6:30am, 12 August AEST.
The final women's sides for Rio will be finalised following the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in France from June 13-19 while the men's competition will be firmed up when the final three teams are added following three tournaments across Europe in early July.
