Australian Volleyroos sweep weekend's Nations League matches
In an historic sporting moment the Australian Volleyroos have defeated world volleyball heavyweights and Olympic Silver Medallists Italy 3-1 (27-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23) to complete a clean sweep of their three Volleyball Nations League matches this weekend.

VOLLEYBALL: In an historic sporting moment the Australian Volleyroos have defeated world volleyball heavyweights and Olympic silver medallists Italy 3-1 (27-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23) to complete a clean sweep of their three Volleyball Nations League matches this weekend.

The Volleyroos, it seems, were the only major Australian sporting team to fly the green and gold flag this weekend.

Despite being ranked 16th in the world the Aussies began their four match winning run last week by upsetting Germany and followed it up this weekend by accounting for hosts Korea, China and world number four Italy.

The Aussies have been growing with confidence in every match of the five week tournament which heads to Australia next week.

Melbourne’s Hisense arena will showcase Australia taking on World Champions Poland, Olympic Champions Brazil and Argentina. Tickets on sale now through Ticketek - You can book tickets here.

"A really brave match tonight we were full of energy, emotion and intensity it was a really wonderful moment for Australian Volleyball.” Volleyroos coach Mark Lebedew said after defeating Italy.

"The Italians probably didn’t like it but it was a great advertisement for how we can play, what we can do, the possibilities that lay before us."

The Aussie coach says the scene is set for the Volleyroos to do something special in front off their home crowd in Melbourne next week.

“We don’t need to back down from anybody, we can play with anybody, we can compete with anybody. We are often not favourites but does that mean we can win against Brazil, Poland or Argentina on home turf in Melbourne next week so we hope Australian Sporting fans come out and support us.”
