Five Australian Olympic swimming and water polo representatives will be taking part in the Special Olympic Splash, a swimming fundraising event for corporate teams, to support the programs of Special Olympics Australia.

The Splash, created by dual Olympic decathlete Peter Hadfield, will be held on the night of Wednesday 16 November at the Andrew Boy Charlton Pool in Sydney.

This year the event is being supported by Rio 2016 swimmer and bronze medallist Matt Abood, along with water polo Olympians Johnno Cotterill (London 2012 & Rio 2016), Keesja Gofers (Rio 2016 & Tokyo 2020), Nathan Power (Tokyo 2020) and Isobel Bishop (Rio 2016).

A series of 8x50m corporate freestyle relays will be conducted, with the highlight of the event being a match-race relay between the Olympians and a team of Special Olympics swimmers.

Peter Hadfield, who competed at Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984, said “this is the seventh year we have conducted the Splash and our fundraising total exceeds $500,000.

“Thanks to the generosity of the participating corporate teams and the support of some of Australian leading aquatic sportsmen and women.”
