Australian archers Laura Paeglis and Ryan Tyack have won the 2023 Pacific Games mixed team Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Solomon Islands, winning a mixed team quota for Paris 2024.
The pair defeated New Zealand 6-0 in the final to take the win, with the Aussie duo scoring an impressive 110 out of a maximum 120 over their three sets.
The pair were thrilled with the victory, which also ensures an individual male and female quota spot for the Paris Games.

Twenty-one-year-old Paeglis showed no nerves in her first Olympic qualification event, shooting 55 out of 60 to help secure the quota.
“It feels absolutely amazing to win this qualifier,” Paeglis said. “This is my first opportunity to win a quota spot, having done it, I’m over the moon. The match is a bit of a blur now. I was nervous, but the nerves seemed to power me.”
“My phone is blowing up, lot of friends and family seeing what happened, I’m sure they’re all ecstatic.
“It feels good knowing Paris is that little bit closer. We still need to earn our selection, I just need to keep shooting well.”
Dual Olympian Tyack continues his momentous Pacific Games campaign, after being named as flag bearer for the Team at last Sunday’s Opening Ceremony.
“We came into today with a game plan based on how we did yesterday, we executed and performed extremely well,” Sunshine Coast local Tyack said.
“I’m really happy that we stepped up to the plate on the right day, we shot well in both our matches and got the result we came here for.
“Laura and I have shot together pretty much all this year, we’ve got some good experience going forward and hope to follow that through.”
The mixed team event sees pairs go head to head, with each set comprising two rounds of four shots (one per athlete) in an 80 second time limit per team. With set winners scoring two points and a tie one point each, the first team to five points secures the win.
Australia dominated from the start, notching set wins of 37-23, 37-36 and 36-28. The Australian pair showed their class, totalling 110 out of a maximum 120 over the three sets, with both Australian archers notching 55 out of a maximum 60.
The Australians defeated Tonga in the semi-finals 6-0 for a perfect record of six sets from six at today’s qualifying event.
The archers continue their Pacific Games campaign through to this Friday, while Australian boxers are also able to earn quotas for the Paris Olympics when their competition starts next Tuesday 28 November.
Australian archers have further chances to earn quotas for Paris 2024 through qualifying events in June next year and world ranking following those final qualifying events. Paris 2024 Australian Olympic Team selections for archery are expected to occur in July next year.
