The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) today welcomed the Queensland Government’s response to a 100-Day Review of infrastructure and planning needs ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Games.
Premier David Crisafulli today outlined the Government’s plans for Games venues at an event in Brisbane, including its support for key competition venues, athlete villages and transport connections.
The Premier's announcement follows a 100-Day review of Games venues and plannings needs by the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority (GIICA), which received more than 5000 submissions, before handing a final set of recommendations to the Queensland Government earlier this month.
AOC President Ian Chesterman said today’s decision provides welcome certainty.
“Today’s announcement sets out generational infrastructure that will benefit Brisbane, Queensland and Australia in the lead up to and well beyond the Games in 2032, in line with the IOC’s New Norm principles," Mr Chesterman said.
“The Queensland Government's response is a very positive step towards delivering a successful Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“Providing clarity on venues and infrastructure offers a foundation for momentum - allowing Games Delivery partners to get on with the job of preparing for an exceptional Games.
“The reality is the Brisbane Games are a once-in-a-generation opportunity that creates potential legacy benefits that extend far beyond just the Games period.
"There are some great outcomes for some of our sports and the athletes who will be delighted about the plans revealed today.
“We thank GIICA for its hard work and consultation over the course of the Review, the Queensland Government for its commitment to driving a positive sense of momentum, and to our fellow Delivery Partners across government for their continued support and collaboration.
"We now look forward to an exciting period of progress and delivery,” Mr Chesterman said.
