The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has thanked the NSW State Government following today’s announcement of a $3.1 million upgrade of the Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
The announcement comes ahead of a major addition to the Green & Gold Runway leading to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, with the Penrith Whitewater facility to host the 2025 Canoe Slalom World Championships.

AOC Chief Executive Officer Matt Carroll says the Whitewater Stadium and adjacent Sydney International Regatta Centre have been great sporting and community legacies from the Sydney 2000 Games.
“Nearly twenty three years after Sydney 2000, the city has a world class paddle facility that has been home to an extraordinary array of athletes including the great Jess Fox - Olympic gold, silver and bronze medallist across three Games. The government’s pledge of $3.1 million for the stadium is wonderful news for Paddle Australia and of course for the World Championships here in two years’ time.
“We talk about the capacity of the Olympic Games to inspire people. It’s wonderful to hear from Jess herself about how the Sydney Games inspired her and now in turn she is inspiring others.
“The Penrith facility continues to host local, state, national and international competitions as well as recreational use and swift water rescue training.
“Our thanks to Minister Alister Henskens for today’s welcome news, on top of the government’s earlier commitment to improvements of the competition timing system at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.
“The International Canoe Federation President was present at Penrith today and he had nothing but praise for the commitment to upgrade the venue and had no doubt that when the World Championships are held here in 2025, they are in the safest of hands,” Mr Carroll concluded.
