First taking up cross-country skiing as a seven-year-old, it wasn’t until the COVID-19 lockdowns that Samuel decided to pursue the sport seriously. Recently named to the 2023-2024 National Junior Cross-Country Team, the 17-year-old is motivated by the feelings of satisfaction and accomplishment he experiences when crossing the finish line of a hard race.
In early 2023, Samuel was named the Australian team flagbearer at the 2023 Youth and Junior World Championships, an achievement he considers a career highlight. Later in the year, he claimed the gold medal in both the MU18 classic time trial and MU18 freestyle time trial at the Australian Junior Cross-Country Championships.
