The fourth Winter Youth Olympic Games took place in the province of Gangwon in the Republic of Korea, hosts of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. 1,900 athletes from all over the world competed in 15 sports and 81 events.
This was the first Winter Youth Olympics to be held in Asia and built on the Olympic Games legacy to engage more young people through various activities before, throughout and after the Games.
Australia won three medals at the Games and sent 47 athletes to Gangwon. Silver went to Daisy Thomas in the women's freestyle skiing big air and to Lottie Lodge in the women's freestyle skiing dual moguls. Bronze was taken by Abbey Wilson and William Martin in the snowboard cross mixed team event.
Gangwon 2024 benefitted from many of the facilities used for PyeongChang 2018, where participating athletes had the opportunity to compete in some of the same sites as Olympians.
The vision of Gangwon 2024 was to let the youth celebrate peaceful coexistence and unity through sport to create a better future together.
