Three changes to Australian Men's Sevens squad for Cape Town

9 December 2015

RUGBY SEVENS: Qantas Australian Men's Sevens interim Head Coach Scott Bowen has made three changes for the inaugural Cape Town Sevens, which kicks off this weekend (Saturday).

Keen to build player depth in the Men's Sevens program, Bowen has drafted in Boyd Killingworth and teen flyer Henry Hutchison for their Sevens World Series debuts while Greg Jeloudev will also link up with the squad in South Africa.

Meanwhile, outside back Pama Fou and the experienced James Stannard are set to win their 25th World Series caps in Cape Town.

Pat McCutcheon (hamstring), Tom Lucas (hamstring) and Nick Malouf (knee) are ruled out for the two-day event which has been declared a 110,000 sell-out.

Interim Head Coach Scott Bowen said: "I felt last week in Dubai we created enough chances to make a real impact at the pointy end of the tournament but couldn't execute when it counted most. This is a brand new tournament and fresh opportunities for some new players to make their mark. There is going to be a huge crowd watching and no better place for the boys to perform and put on a show.

"Henry Hutchison, in particular, has made a real impact on the program since he joined us and he'll be someone for fans to look out for. We have a very interesting pool - the USA are one of the form teams in the world at the moment with pace to burn. Wales will have learnt from their tournament last weekend and will be all the stronger for that experience while we stumbled against Portugal in Tokyo earlier year so we are under no illusions at the task at hand."

Australia currently sit sixth in the 2015-16 HSBC Sevens World Series standings after losing out to 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold Medallists South Africa in the Dubai Sevens Plate Final last weekend.

The Cape Town Sevens will be broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS. Check your local guides for channel details.
