Paralympics announce flag bearer

9 March 2006

The Australian skiing great, Michael Milton, will carry the Australian flag at the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Winter Paralympics.

It is the second time Milton has carried the flag. In Salt Lake 2002, Milton led out a team of six athletes.

This year he will lead out a young team of 10 Australian Winter Paralympians, including Australia's first female athlete, Emily Jansen.

Carrying the flag is a fitting honour for Milton, who has won Australia's first alpine ski gold medal in either Olympic or Paralympic competition and has 10 medals to his name, including six gold.

The Paralympics Opening Ceremony will be held in the same venue as the Olympic ceremonies, Satdio Olimpico, and begins at 7pm tomorrow night (5am Sat AEDT).
