Godwin ready to fly the flag in Women's All-Around Final

6 October 2017

GYMNASTICS: Following an exciting Men's Individual All-Around Final at the 27th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, Australia's Georgia Godwin is ready to take the floor in tomorrow night's Women's Individual All-Around Final.

Qualifying for the 24-women final in 20th position - with an All-Around score of 51.874 - the 19-year-old told Gymnastics Australia she was excited to be competing in her first World Championship Final.

"I'm excited I'm in All-Around Finals," Godwin said.  "I've got a few things to fix for tomorrow night, but I've got another training session [still to come before the competition] so if I can just iron out the little kinks in my routine, I'll perform a little bit better tomorrow night."

Meanwhile Australia's newly-appointed Women's National Coach, Mihai Brestyan, said he was pleased with Godwin's work ethic in the lead up to and throughout Australia's World Championship campaign.

"Georgia handled it very well," Brestyan said of his infamously tough training and conditioning program.  "Georgia completes the program every single day, and this gives her confidence, consistency and execution in competition, which is the biggest plus.

"It was not an expectation [for Georgia to make the All-Around Final]...I wanted her to get there of course, [but] it's not that I expect her to be there at any price...but it's a very good result for her because it means that at this moment, she is among the best All-Arounders in the world...and it gives us a little bit more confidence for what we have been trying to change, and for the future as well."

The Women’s All-Around Final will be broadcast live in Australia on Fox Sports 507 from 9.50am AEDST.
