Forsyth turns tables on Pitt

8 August 2006

Adam Forsyth toppled Commonwealth Champion Brad Pitt at the recent Amateur Boxing Nationals Championships in Darwin, earning him the Boxer of the Tournament award.

The West Australian defeated Pitt on points 45:35 in the 91+kg division.

Pitt is best known for his win at the Commonwealth Games in March after qualifying on a countback position ahead of Forsyth.

Forsyth is known to many for being robbed by a judging decision in the quarter-finals at the Athens Olympics.

As these heavyweights push each other all the way to Beijing there was encouraging signs across many divisions, with the overall standard of boxing in Australia on the rise.

Boxing Australia is working hard to secure adequate funding to enable our best fighters to gain valuable international experience.

Qualification for Beijing is through a top eight finish in the 2007 World Championships in Moscow or winning the Oceania Championship.
