Evelyn Halls appointed Chef de Mission Buenos Aires 2018 YOG

31 January 2018

BUENOS AIRES 2018: The Australian Olympic Committee has announced dual Olympian Evelyn Halls will take over the role of Chef de Mission for the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires in October 2018.

The appointment has been made following the withdrawal of triple Olympian Kim Brennan from the role as she is expecting her first child later this year.
A gold medallist at the Rio Olympics in 2016 in single sculls, Brennan reluctantly made the decision but will remain actively involved to ensure a smooth handover.

AOC President John Coates AC says our Youth Olympic team is fortunate to have such an able replacement in Evelyn Halls who has competed in two Olympics as a fencer (Sydney 2000 & Athens 2004), is President of the Australian Fencing Federation and has pursued a successful professional career in corporate law and dispute resolution.

“There’s no question that Evelyn has outstanding credentials to guide our team in Buenos Aires and we are very grateful that she has accepted this role. She has shown exceptional leadership in the sport of fencing and in her profession.

“The AOC acknowledges the contribution that Kim has made and we understand it was a very difficult decision as she is a passionate Olympian. However, our congratulations to Kim and husband Scott on their wonderful news.

In accepting the appointment today, Ms Halls said she looked forward to contributing to the development of Australia’s next generation of Olympians.

“The Youth Olympic Games is an important event for our young athletes, providing them with the great benefits of an Olympic experience at an early stage in their careers. I’m excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the competitive and personal development of our athletes in the role of Chef de Mission."

The Youth Olympic Games will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 6‐18, 2018.
