Australian Institute of Sport

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is Australia’s premiere sports training institute.

Skilled coaches, world-class facilities and cutting-edge services in sports science and sports medicine give the AIS a reputation as a worldwide leader in high performance athlete development.

Consistent outstanding athlete results have followed, with 263 current and former AIS athletes competing at the 2008 Olympic Games. Beijing gold medallists from the AIS included Ken Wallace, Elise Rechichi, Tessa Parkinson, Malcolm Page, Nathan Wilmot, Angie Bainbridge, Felicity Galvez, Linda MacKenzie and Tarnee White.

Winter athletes competing at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games included gold medallist Lydia Lassila and silver medalist Dale Begg-Smith.

The AIS is a national institution that offers 34 sport programs in 26 sports, with a varying number of scholarships offered annually to Australia’s finest sportsmen and sportswomen.

The main AIS headquarters is in Canberra but other programs are based around the country, including Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. AIS athletes in certain sports also train overseas at bases in Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.
