Swimming Mens 100m Freestyle

Bill Kendall reached the semi-finals of the 100 metres freestyle at the Berlin Games in 1936. He did not progress to the final, but in his semi-final swim he became the first Australian to break the 1-minute barrier for his specialist event. The 100 yards champion of Australia in 1935 was prepared to finance his own passage to Berlin if he had not been selected in the Olympic team.
