Tarnee's Story

Tarnee White competed at Sydney 2000 where she finished seventh in the 100 metres breaststroke and with Giaan Rooney, Petria Thomas and Sarah Ryan qualified Australia for the final of the medley relay. Thomas was joined in the final by Dyana Calub, Leisel Jones and Susie O’Neill when the team finished second to the United States.

Eight years later at Beijing 2008, White finished sixth in the 100 metres breaststroke before swimming in the heat of the medley relay with Emily Seebohm, Felicity Galvez and Shayne Reese to qualify Australia fastest for the final. When racing for gold Seebohm swam a strong backstroke leg and from there the result was never in doubt after Leisel Jones surged to the lead in the second leg. Schipper in the butterfly and Trickett in the freestyle finished off the opposition. Dara Torres, for the second-placed United States, first swam at an Olympic swimming meeting at Los Angeles 1984, eight years before Seebohm was born. China finished third.
