Rodney's Story

Rodney John “Rod” Mapstone is a former Australian sprinter who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Born in Fremantle, Western Australia, on 19 November 1969, Mapstone established himself as one of Australia's fastest sprinters during the mid-1990s.

At Atlanta 1996, Mapstone competed in the men's 100 metres, recording 10.56 seconds in the heats. He was also a member of the Australian 4 × 100-metre relay team, which won its heat before being disqualified in the semifinals.

Mapstone achieved a personal best of 10.17 seconds for the 100 metres in 1996, the same year as his Olympic appearance. His speed and consistency earned him a place among Australia's leading sprint athletes of the decade.
