Nikita Rukavytsya was born in the Ukraine and moved to Perth with his family at the age of 14. Rukavytsya was awarded an AIS scholarship and began playing for Perth Glory in the 2006/2007 A-League season. Rukavytsya made his debut for the Australian U/23 side in March 2008 and was named in the Beijing Olympic Team, finishing 11th at the Olympic Games.
