Natalie's Story

Natalie Ward has the remarkable achievement of having won a medal at every Olympic softball tournament since the sport made its debut in 1996. The four-time Olympian’s medal collection features bronze medals from 1996, 2000 and 2008 and a silver medal from 2004. From Newcastle in New South Wales, Ward is among the most popular and enduring players ever to represent Australia. The shortstop began her international career as a teenager, joining her sister Linda on the national team. Her speed, anticipation and understanding of the game allowed her to maintain her status as one of the world’s best infielders during her long and decorated career. She was the first woman to play more than 400 games for Australia, and served as captain of the team. Ward regards the silver medal won in Athens as her proudest moment in sport. Teammates Tanya Harding and Melanie Roche are the only other softballers to have represented Australia at four Olympics. The trio are also the only Australian women to win medals at four Olympics.
