Miao's Story

Miao Miao was born in Tianjin, China and grew up in Poland where she played for the Polish national team before moving to Australia with her father, a table tennis coach and former national level player, and mother, a Chinese national level athlete. Miao placed 33rd in singles and reached the doubles quarter-finals in Sydney, placing 5th. In Athens 2004 she reached the second round of the singles and doubles. Her best result in Beijing 2008 was ninth in doubles.

In 2012, Miao alongside Jian Fang Lay, made history by becoming the first woman to represent Australia in table tennis at four Olympic Games. She won her first singles match against Czech player Dana Hadacova but went down to her Taipei rival Yi-Hua Huang in the second. The women’s team including Miao went out in the first round to Germany.
