The women’s K4 crew of Lisa Russ (then Oldenhof), Hannah Davis, Chantal Meek and Lyndsie Fogarty drew inspiration from the flying finish of Ken Wallace in his winning of the bronze medal in the men’s K1 1000 metres at Beijing 2008. Placed fifth with 250 metres to go, the crew produced an extra effort to finish third behind women’s kayaking powerhouses, Germany and Hungary. This was the best Olympic performance by a women’s K4 crew. Oldenhof and Meek were in the women’s K4 that finished sixth at Athens 2004. Later at Beijing, Davis and Fogarty finished a creditable sixth in the women’s K2 500 metres.
