Lindsay's Story
Lindsay Nylund became one of Australia’s leading male artistic gymnasts during the 1970s, winning five national all-around titles across junior and senior competition. In 1976, he accepted an athletics scholarship to Arizona State University, where he competed in the American collegiate system.
At the Edmonton 1978 Commonwealth Games, Nylund won silver in the men’s all-around and helped Australia secure team bronze. His all-around medal was Australia’s first in international gymnastics, and his performance at the 1979 World Championships earned him selection for Moscow 1980.
Nylund was Australia’s sole male gymnast at the Moscow Games, making his Olympic debut aged 22. He completed routines across all six apparatus and finished 34th in the individual all-around with 109.675 points.
