About Laetisha

Lateisha Scanlan started her shooting career as a 15-year-old at the Wonthaggi Gun Club in Victoria.

Originally joining the sport as a bonding activity with her father, Scanlan quickly discovered her talent for the sport and decided to pursue it competitively.

At the 2010 Commonwealth Games Scanlan won trap pairs gold, but two years later narrowly missed out on an Olympic debut at London 2012. Despite her disappointment, the Victorian continued to strive toward her goal of one day winning an Olympic medal.

Scanlan went on to win her first World Cup in 2013 and secured three top-10 finishes on the 2014 World Cup circuit, including a World Cup gold in Tucson, USA. At the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games she backed-up her 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medal with another gold medal, however this time in the individual event.

Shortly after, the trap shooter won silver at the 2015 Acapulco World Cup in Mexico. This result successfully secured her a quota spot for the Australian Olympic Team for the Rio 2016 Games.

At her debut Olympics in Rio, Scanlan lined up with teammate Catherine Skinner in the trap event. She shot 70/75 targets to move through to the final six as the top qualifier. With the scores re-setting for the semi-finals, Scanlan shot 10/15 targets to finish fifth overall as Skinner went on to win gold for Australia.

Since her Olympic debut, Scanlan has continued her outstanding success in shooting winning gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in the individual event.

Scanlan won the 2020 Commonwealth Championships, which doubled as Australia’s first Olympic selection event.

At Tokyo 2020, Scanlan narrowly missed a medal when fourth in the women’s trap and was placed 7th in the mixed trap team event where she partnered James Willett.

In 2022, Scanlan enjoyed a successful international season winning the mixed trap team gold medal with James Willett at the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan and the women’s trap team with Catherine Skinner and Penny Smith at the ISSF World Cup in Lonato, Italy. She also won an individual bronze medal in the women’s trap in Baku.

She backed up her great form when winning the women’s trap gold medal at the ISSF World Cup event in Lonato in 2023.
