Born in East Bentleigh, Victoria, Kristian Sarkies made his debut for the U/23 Australian football side in April 2006. Sarkies played an instrumental role in the team’s Olympic qualification tournament, including a four goal haul in a match against Chinese Taipei. Sarkies, who won the 2006/7 A-League Championship with Melbourne Victory, played in the midfield during the 2008 Olympics. The Australians finished 11th at the 2008 Beijing Games.
