Kiel's Story

1984 –

Queenslander Kiel Brown won a bronze medal for Australia in men’s hockey in 2008. In the preliminary round, the team had three wins and two draws from its five matches to advance to the semi-finals. In its semi, Australia led Spain 2-0 into the second half, only for the Spanish to catch fire and win 3-2. The Kookaburras rebounded well in the bronze medal final to trounce traditional rivals the Netherlands 6-2. Brown had a special reason to celebrate his Beijing success: his sister, Hope Munro, was a member of the Australian women’s team, the Hockeyroos, at the Games.
