About Kailani

By age 23 Kailani has been a 12-time Australian national figure skating champion and competed at two Olympic Games.

Her eyes opened up to the world of figure skating as an eight-year-old after she attended a birthday party in her hometown, Newcastle. 

Kailani made her international debut as a 17 year-old, placing 12th at the 2015 Four Continents Championship in Seoul. The result earned her a spot in the International Skating Union (ISU) World Juniors in Tallinn, Estonia where she finished 16th.

She enjoyed a successful 2016-17 season, winning two medals across the Volvo Open Cup (bronze) in Latvia and silver at the ISU Warsaw Cup Challenger event in Poland.

As part of PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games qualify Kailani skated to gold at the 2017 Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany. Her program to Moulin Rouge included five triples jumps, three level-four spins and level-four footwork.

She also won gold in the short program at Obserstdorf, landing a triple loop-double toe, triple-flip and double axel in her routine to Dream A Little Dream of Me.

At her Olympic debut, Kailani finished 17th in the women’s individual event. Five weeks later at the ISU World Championships she was again 17th – her best result from five World Championships appearances.

Kailani had skated at the past seven Four Continents titles – only missing 2020 due to the pandemic – earning five top-15 placings.

A spot on the Beijing 2022 Team was earned when Kailani finished 7th at the Nebelhorn Trophy in 2021, to Blondie’s Heart of Glass.

Once she got to Beijing she encountered a tough break on the ice during the short program, but managed to put in a brave effort despite an early error to complete a triple-triple combination and a double axel.

These days she splits her time between the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium in Newcastle and Los Angeles, where she trains with the 1985-86 World Championships bronze medallist Tiffany Chin.
