John's Story

John Kah was part of the 1992 short track speed skating relay team. The team were the reigning World Champions, having won the 5,000m relay event at the 1991 World Championships. At the Albertville Games, they were eliminated in the semi-final after Kah and teammate Richard Nizielski fell. Two years later at the 1994 Lillehammer Games, Kah was a selected member of the team but did not skate in the relay, in which the quartet went on to win bronze - Australia’s first Winter Olympic medal.

Kah also competed in the short track speed skating demonstration event at the Calgary 1988 Games. He is married to Karen Kah (Gardiner) who competed at the same Olympic Games, also in short track. His brother Danny competed in speed skating and carried the flag at the 1992 Games.
