Ian's Story

Ian Borrows made his Olympic debut at Rio 2016, competing as Australia’s sole competitor in the men’s C1 event.

Borrows defeated London Olympian Robin Jeffery in the final of the men’s C1 race at the Oceania Championships to secure his place on the Rio Team.

At his debut Games, Borrows had a dream first run, sitting in fifth place after the first heat and securing his position for the semi-final. However he finished an agonising 0.09 of a second outside qualifying for the 10-man final and finished his Olympic campaign in 11th position.

Borrows’ Olympic dream was ignited more than 15 years ago when as a 10-year-old he watched as the slalom course was built in his hometown for the Sydney Olympics.

Five years later he was selected to represent Australia in the K1 at the Australian Youth Olympics Festival.
