Greg's Story

Greg Fasala was an outstanding relay swimmer for Australia in the 1980s, highlighted by his silver medal in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay in Los Angeles. The Victorian proved a popular member of the ‘Mean Machine’, the name given to Australia’s relay team. The other relay members were Neil Brooks, Mark Stockwell and Michael Delany. As well as his Olympic silver medal, Fasala also won Commonwealth Games gold medals with the relay team in 1982 and 1986. The ‘Mean Machine’ nickname was given to the team by journalist Ian Hanson, the father of 2004 Olympic medallist Brooke Hanson.
