Duncan's Story
Duncan Harvey started bobsleigh in 2007 when he was 26. Torino 2006 pilot Jeremy Rolleston approached him at athletics training because his size, strength and speed would be perfectly suited to the sport. Harvey was ranked as one of the top five 110m sprint hurdlers in Australia from 2001 - 2007. He began hurdling at age 10 and in his career earned one National bronze medal, a silver and several medals at the QLD and NSW Championships.
Harvey made his Olympic debut at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games alongside pilot Chris Spring in the AUS1 2-Man sled. In a training run prior to competition, Spring and Harvey crashed causing Harvey to experience problems with his back for the following days and Spring to complete his training with teammate Anthony Ryan. Harvey recovered to compete in the Games, completing two runs with Spring, ending in overall 22nd place (Ryan completed the third run in Harvey's place due to his injury). Harvey was also selected in the Australian 4-Man crew, however they withdrew from competition due to injuries.
Harvey competed in his second Games in Sochi in 2014. He was the brakeman for pilot Heath Spence in the 2-Man event, the pair finishing 26th. He again pushed for Spence alongside Lucas Mata and Gareth Nichols in the 4-Man event where they finished 22nd. During the 2013/14 season his best result was two bronze medals in the 4-Man event in North America’s Cup events.
