Dominic's Story

Dominic Demschar made his second Olympic Games appearance in PyeongChang after making his debut four years earlier at the Sochi 2014 Games. It was there as a 20-year-old that he finished 39th in the giant slalom and did not finish his second run of the slalom.

At the 2018 Games, Demschar finished 33rd in the men's Giant Slalom at YongPyong Alpine Centre, finishing 8.71 seconds behind Marcel Hirscher of Austria. As unusual weather rolled in, more than half of the men’s Slalom field did not finish the challenging course, with Demschar being among the 54 athletes of the total 106 competitors who did not complete their first run.

He was born in Oberndorf, Austria to an Austrian father and an Australian mother. His dad coached Olympic athletes which sparked his Olympic dream from an early age. He began competing on the international Alpine Skiing circuit in 2008 and in 2012 he represented Australia at the Junior World Championships.

Demschar currently attends the University of Utah where he studies Accounting and Finance and races for the university’s ski team.

The 24-year-old spent the final weeks leading into his second Olympic appearance competing in Europe where he secured his best a result at a race in Slovenia when he claimed giant slalom bronze.
