1941 –

David Dickson won three bronze medals as member of relay teams at Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964. He swam with some of the giants of Australian men’s swimming in Jon Henricks, John Devitt, Murray Rose, David Theile, Kevin Berry, Jon Konrads and Ian O’Brien. At Tokyo, he also made the semi-finals of the 100 metres freestyle and finished fourth with the 4 x 200 metres relay squad.

At the 1962 Perth British Empire and Commonwealth Games and the 1966 Kingston British Commonwealth Games, he won four relay gold medals and two individual bronze medals, in the 110 yards freestyle. At Kingston, where he carried the national flag at the opening ceremony, he witnessed the emergence of another Australian swimming great in Michael Wenden. Dickson became a wonderful supporter of the Olympic Movement, particularly in the ACT.
