Cecilia's Story

Cecilia McIntosh made her Olympic debut as the pusher in the women's two-man bobsleigh crew at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Prior to the start of the Games, the AOC appealed after the International Bobsleigh Federation (FIBT) omitted McIntosh and teammate Astrid Loch-Wilkinson from selection, after they achieved the minimum qualification standard. The AOC argued the FIBT erred in not selecting a team from Oceania. The AOC eventually won the appeal just two days before the opening ceremony and McIntosh and Loch-Wilkinson were allowed to enter the Village and realise their Olympic dream as the 21st sled in what was previously a 20-sled field. The pair finished 19th. McIntosh was a former track and field star, winning a silver medal in javelin at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. With injury ending her javelin career, McIntosh looked for another sport, starting bobsleigh at the suggestion of Olympian Shane McKenzie (2006 Torino - Bobsleigh) who trained at her athletic club. McIntosh also won silver at the state and national championships in weightlifting and was a member of the women's 2009 All Australian AFL team.
