Caroline's Story

After a heartbreaking end to her London 2012 qualification campaign, Caroline Marton got the chance to represent her country at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Marton was disqualified up nine points with 15 seconds to go in the final London 2012 qualification bout. She wasn’t going to let anything stand in her way at her next chance, packing up her things and moving from Melbourne to Sydney at the start of 2015 in order to train with her sister Carmen. The results soon followed as she made the third round of the World Championships, moved into the top 20 in the Olympic rankings, won Pacific Games gold and made the quarter-finals in the tough Grand Prix series.

She was selected to compete at the Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament where she secured her spot to her debut Olympic Games after her division went uncontested. Competing in the -57kg division, Marton went down to Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden 4-0 and did not get another chance in the repechage.
