Bridgette's Story

Bridgette Starr, from New South Wales, first played for the national team, the Matildas, as a teenager in 1994. At the Sydney 2000 Games tournament, she played in the 1–2 loss to Brazil. She was the first indigenous woman footballer to represent Australia at the World Cup (in 1999) and the Olympic Games. Overall, Bridgette played 53 full international games, scoring one goal, for the Matildas in an international career that stretched from 1994 to 2002. She is a member of the Aboriginal and Islander Sports Hall of Fame.
