Brett's Story
1979 -
Dual Olympian Brett Roneberg won a silver medal for Australia in baseball in 2004. Roneberg was one of six players on the Athens team to have played at Sydney 2000, where the team finished seventh. The versatile Victorian was a left-handed batter and fielder. At his first Olympics in Sydney, he played strongly, being the top-ranked first baseman. He did not commit an error in his five games. In Athens it was his offensive game that ranked him among the tournament’s statistical leaders. He tied for most home runs with three and ranked fifth for hits with 13. Australia lost the final to Cuba 6-2. The result was Australia’s first Olympic baseball medal. Roneberg has also played in the US Major Leagues.
