Barry's Story

A champion life saver, Barry Kelly teamed up with Grant Kenny, another idol of the beach, to win a bronze medal in the men’s K2 1000m in 1984. The pair made an excellent transition to kayaking from surf skis, beating home all their rivals except for the experienced Canadian and French pairs. Kelly has since enjoyed a successful career as a coach in canoe/kayak, serving as national coach at the Australian Institute of Sport and going to the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games as an official.
