At Melbourne 1956, Anthony (Tony) Marchant and Ian Browne repeated the Helsinki 1952 win of Russell Mockridge and Lionel Cox in the tandem. Marchant and Browne needed the repechage heats to progress to the final rounds where they hit top form to eventually become Olympic champions. Melbourne 1956 were the only international games in which Tony Marchant competed.
