Annie Burgess

Annie Burgess (la Fleur) won a silver medal as a member of the Australian women’s basketball team in 2000. Born in Papua New Guinea, the speedy guard provided a spark off the bench as the Opals reached its first Olympic final. The team won seven straight games to reach the final. However, in the gold medal match they found defending champions the United Sates too hot to handle, losing 76-54. Burgess was also a member of the 1994 and 1998 World Championship teams in which the Opals finished fourth and third respectively.
